Mountain Bike Daze

In the middle of 2005, through the constant urging of a friend, I had decided to get myself immersed in mountain biking. Since then, a bunch of us weekend bikers have come together and I have enjoyed every minute since.

I will save it on descriptions of the trails as there are many websites that offer more than adequate information. You can check the Links page for more sites on mountain biking in Malaysia apart from the links I have listed in the Resource section of this article.

Mountain biking is an interesting pastime and it is a fantastic way to see a great deal of the outdoors in a short span of time. Besides, what other sport do you know that can take place no matter the weather? In fact, I think there are many of us who secretly would like to see it rain. Could it possibly be a childhood inhibition that just needed some release in our adult life?

Besides riding with my close knit bunch of weekend cyclist, I have been mainly joining the Kuala Lumpur Mountain Bike Hash (KLMBH). Their rides are well planned, and cater to beginners and casual riders, as well as the adrenaline rotor heads. Why not join them for their next ride? For non-members, the fee is just a paltry RM10, but if you like their organizational skills, membership dues are RM50 for a year. To top it off, everybody is always warm and friendly, and story swapping is more than welcome.

There are also other outfits, such as the Pedalphiles Cycling Club (PCC) and loose groups associated to your friendly local bicycle stores such as KSH. All of them plan some form of riding activity in the weekends, and newcomers are normally welcomed.

Just remember to come prepared, have the mental setup for such an activity, and to have the proper cycling safety gear. Mountain biking is one of those few sports that your level of thrill (and danger) is entirely up to you. There is never any shame to ride slower, more careful, or just getting off your bike to push. After all, we all ride for the fun of it. No reason in getting your cranium damaged for a weekend bit of fun.
